Benchmarking

We conduct the a number of tests on the setup with the following configuration :

Test System:

  • AMD AXP2700+
  • Epox 8RDA+ running 2 x 256M DDR400 in Sync DDR333 CAS2,2-2-5
  • Maxtor D740X-6L ATA133 7200RPM
  • AOPEN 40X CDROM
  • Gigabyte GV-R9500pro, Catalyst 3.0
  • Chaintech GF4Ti4600, Detonator 41.09
  • Channelwell 375W AMD Approved PSU

Comanche 4

This is a new benchmark that we adopt in our test of graphics card. Comanche 4 is a demanding application and is excellent for testing D3D. In the comparison we have to take note of the various settings on R9500Pro and Ti4600.

In our benchmarks for Radeon 9500pro, we set it to the 5 Main settings, Optimal Performance, Hi Perofrmance, Balanced, Hi Quality, Optimal Quality. Do take note the various combinations of AA and AF when the above are selected.

Optimal Quality = 4X AA + 16X AF
High Quality = 2X AA + 8X AF
Balanced = Application Specific
High Performance = Application Specific + Texture Pref  3 + MipMap Level 3
Optimal Performance = Application Specific + Texture Pref  2 + MipMap Level 2

In this benchmark, we see a reverse. In Comanche4 which is more CPU demanding, resulted in a lead by the Gigabyte card against the Chaintech. With a lead of 2.5% over the Chaintech, the Radeon 9500pro again proves to be on par and performs very close to the GF4 Ti4600.
