Benchmarks

3DMark05

Before we go into the benchmarks, we would like to point out the differences in gpu clk/mem settings from the various manufacturers. The factory defaults of the GF 8600GTS is 675/1000 while the 8600GT is 540/700.

The cards are factory overclocked.

Gigabyte GV-NX86T256D : 600/720
ECS N8600GTS-256MX+ : 720/1100
Chaintech GSE86GTS-A1 : 743/1100

As the clks are o/c by default, results might differ. In the chart below, we also posted the scores of the card(s) overclocked. The results can be seen with the (oc xxx/xxx).

There is no doubt the 8600GT is no match for the 8600GTS cards. The Gigabyte scored 9038 using its default clk (already o/c) and 9743 when we overclock it further to 661/772 using ntune.

In fact, if you read our Foxconn 7900GS review previously, the Foxconn card scored 9107 in 3Dmark05. The Gigabyte 8600GT scored 9038. This score is very close to the 7900GS. In fact, the performance could match the ASUS EN7900GT in our test (which scored 9342). It is also somewhat amazing that the card, with a passive heatsink can overclock the card from the NV recommended GPU clk of 540/700 to 600/720 and we further increased it to 661/772.

3DMark06

In 3DMark06, the 8600GT scored 4622 and 4978. This score is behind the ASUS EN7900GT and the ASUS EAX1950Pro. The Foxconn 7900GS scored 5161 in a previous test. Although it lost, the card perform pretty close to the DX9 top cards. It is just a 100 - 200 points below that of the X1950pro, 7900GT and 7900GS.

How will it perform in games? Let's read on.
