HQV

DVD playback depends on a lot of factors. In the HQV test, we test out the graphics card in various aspects of video Noise reduction, Film Cadence etc. A total score of 130 if the card passes all the various tests. The breakdown of the scores are shown below.

The results are based on driver 158.14 VISTA driver. We have to use VISTA to test it as the XP driver is not really to fully support Purevideo HD. The video is played back using WinDVD 8 beta which has support for the new VP2 engine. The scores are the same as the 8600 GTS card.

Temperature Monitoring

The 80nm GPU temperature reading is always something that most people would be interested to find out. In this section, we used ATiTools, ran 3DMark06 before and after and note down the temperature readings. This is especially in the case of a noiseless heatpipe design. So how will the temperatures fare?

Before we go ahead with the tests, we measured the readings and they register min 48 deg, max of 56 deg and an average of 51.7 deg. That is slightly warmer to the 8600GTS which runs on active cooling.

After running 3DMark06, the temperatures are min 48 deg, max 67 deg and an average of 58.9 deg. We monitored the graph in ntune and see that the temperature increase gradually unlike the fan based solutions.

To my surprise, the temperatures did not go beyond the 70 degrees. In fact, the max temperature is just slightly higher than that of a 8600GTS actively cooled with FAN turned to MAX speed. HeatPipe II is truly amazing!!
