GeCube Genie
10.2" Mini Notebook
More and more manufacturers are jumping onto the mini notebook pc
bandwagon. So far, we have seen ASUS, MSI, Acer and even Dell are developing and
marketing their own brand mini notebooks based on various chipsets and
processors.
Gecube, being a player in the multimedia industry is definitely not
going to sit and wait. At Computex 2008, Gecube announces their Genie 10.2" and
10.4" mini notebook.
The first thin we noticed is that GeCbe uses the VIA C7-D processor
just like the HP 2133. It is basically a VIA total solution based on C7-D + VIA
CN700/8237R chipset. It will have 512MB on board supporting DDR2-400/533
expandable to 1GB.
It will have a 10.2" TFT LCD screen supporting on screen resolution
of up to 1024x600. It is also more practical to incorporate a 80GB HDD instead
of SSD into the unit.
The system has 3 USB, 1 Fast Ethernet port, D-SUB ports. It weighs
1.5kg and has a dimension of 275x188x32 mm. It's battery life is only 2 hrs
using LiON battery pack.
The system will be preloaded with gOS, a variant of Linux. You can
of course replace and install XP on it. Vista shouldn't be a problem too.
According to GeCube, this 10.2" will be for it's OEM customers.
They will have a different model using 10.4" screen which GeCube will sell under
it's own brand name. We are just wondering when will GeCube announce that ? Will
it still be using the C7 which is a bit too power hungry or will it switch and
use the Intel Atom processor instead? Let's wait and see.
