3DMark Vantage benchmark on
ECS A780GM-A Ultra AMD

Benchmarks -
3Dmark2005/3DMark2006/3DMark Vantage
The ECS A780GM-A Ultra is tested with GPU/MEM at
500MHz/533MHz. It is then tested at an overclocked GPU at 1GHz and mem at
533(DDR2-1066).
The ECS A780GM-A Ultra at default scores 3401 marks
and when overclocked scored 4045 marks. As it is a 780G and GPU is clocked at
500MHz, we would expect the score to be lower than that of the 790GX boards. A
790GX scores around 3800 mark and the ECS A780GM-A scores 3401, almost 400
points lower, a 11% difference. When the integrated GPU is overclocked to 1GHz
(increasing voltages to NB), it scored 4045. This score is very close to the AMD
790GX with Sideport enabled and GPU clocked at 700MHz.
The AMD 790GX
boards are run in default mode , that is at 700MHz for GPU and the
UMA memory is set to run in 533MHz. Thus the integrated GPU runs at 700/533MHz.
The first test is done using UMA enabled. The 2nd test is with the UMA+Sideport enabled.
The third test is UMA+Sideport enabled and GPU is overclocked to 1GHz. *
Before we go on, we would like to highlight that
the ASRock comes with a 128M DDR2-800 while the Biostar TA790GX A2+ comes with a 64MB sideport memory.
The Gigabyte comes with 128MB DDR3. We managed to OC the iGPU to 1000MHz on the
ASRock AOD790GX/128M, 900MHz on Biostar and 1000MHz on Gigabyte.
In 3DMark05, we can see from the chart below that
ASRock did well with just UMA enabled. In fact, this is a pleasant surprise for
us. When sideport is enabled at 533MHZ (1066), the score shot up to 4382. The
BIOSTAR scored 4100 with it's 64M sideport. On the Gigabyte, it scored 4346
which is lower than the ASRock.
When overclocked to 1000MHz and Sideport enabled,
the ASRock took 4587. The Biostar is not match at 4352. The Gigaybte with DDR3
does better at 4758.
From the tests, we can see that a Sideport memory
of 128M does improve performance. If paired up with DDR3, the performance leaps
even further.
In 3Dmark06, ECS A780GM-A Ultra scored 1515 and
1956 when overclocked to 1GHz for it's iGPU. Generally speaking, the 500MHz
clocked A780GM-A Ultra is roughly 260 points behind the 700MHz clocked 790GX.
When the GPU is o/c to 1GHz, the score is 100 points ahead of a 790GX with
Sideport disabled.
The same tests are applied to 3Dmark Vantage in Performance mode. We
weren't able to complete the test. For entry level test, the ECS A780GM-A Ultra
scored E3029.
