PC SHOW 2008 @ Suntec City Singapore
OCWorkbench Team 12 June 2008

PC Show 2008 -The Telco war begins

The 18th International Showcase of the Latest Computer Hardware & Software
Profit from Singapore’s longest-running IT and Consumer Electronics show.

Every year, in June, this event draws crowds to the Suntec Convention Centre in 4 short days.

The major difference between this PC SHOW is that it is not like a trade event like Computex Taipei. PC Show's target audience are mainly consumers that are there for a good bargain. The event is now held at The Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre from 12th June - 15th June.

Today, we dropped by the event. This year, it spans 4 floors. 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th floor.

The bulk of the excitement comes from the price war between the telecom operators Singtel, Starhub and M1 (not present there). On the third floor, we were greeted with the F1 Racer. Singtel also have many spectacular offers going on. Some of the better offers include the $15 postpaid plan for 80 mins and free incoming call plan. They also introduced a 1 yr contract plan for it's broadband on mobile for S$17.42 and a newly introduced 2 yrs contract 3mbps plan for S$22.60 per mth. 5 megapixel camera phones like the Samsung Soul SGH-U900 we reviewed before are on super low price if you sign on for a contract plan. Other 5 megapixel that are up for grabs include the LG KF700 and Sony Ericsson G900.

As Number Retention scheme kicks in tomorrow, Starhub is not sitting on the fence waiting. It has one of the largest booth on the 6th floor. It has upped it's plans by bundling sign up with Free 1 yr of Sports package on it's cable network. For soccer fans, this is a good opportunity to save that S$25 per mth if you are already a Starhub Cable TV subscriber. If you do not have Cable TV, you could also opt for another Starhub mobile powervalue 80 + 200 SMS for 12 mths or an Extra S$100 OFF any new mobile phone package (for existing subscribers to Starhub mobile, cable and maxonline). Another attractive offer is that you can buy the HubStation at S$197.95 and they will throw in Free 1Mbps Broadband Internet and Free 6 mths Basic Upsize Cable channel groups. Another offer is the VIA based HP2133. You can get it for free If you subscribe to MaxOnline high end plans.
