PC Show 2008 - LCD monitors, 1TB HDD. UMPCs

On the 4th floor, we came across the Japanese UMPC maker Kohjinsha. They were showing their latest model, the Kohjinsha SR series. It is the first 7" UMPC with integrated DVD Super multi drive.

KOHJINSHA (First 7" UMPC with integrated DVD Super Multi Drive)

  • Intel® processor A110(800MHz)
  • Memory 1GB
  • Hard Disk 60GB
  • Bluetooth Ver,2.0+EDR
  • CD/DVD Drive
  • Wireless LAN: IEEE802.11 b/g
  • 7" Wide TFT Color LCD (LED Back light) with Touch Screen Resolution (standard display) WSVGA (1024×600)
  • Camera: 1.3 Million Pixels
  • 3 in 1 Media Slot: SD Card (SDHC/SDIO) / Memory Stick / MMC Card compatible, CF Card Slot (Type-II) x 1
  • Approx 1.1kg (with Standard Battery)

ASUS, the Eee PC 900 we reviewed before. was also on the show at various booths. Unfortunately, the newly announced Eee PC 901 and 1000, 1000H were nowhere to be found at any of the booths. We also didn't get to see the MSI Wind notebook based on Intel Atom at the show too.

Acer, BenQ are also there showcasing their 24" LCD panels. Both models supports a resolution of up to 1920x1200. The Acer P243W is priced at S$689 and with a S$150 shopping voucher thrown in. The first X number gets to buy it at S$499. The BenQ ones are more expensive at S$600+.

Crowds gathered at two locations at the hall. One is at Seagate Maxtor while the other is at Western Digital. Both HDD manufacturers are  promoting their TeraByte HDD. TeraByte = 1000 Gigabytes. Just imagine how many years will you take to fill them up unless you rip archive your BluRay discs.

For the Maxtor Basic, a 1TB sells for S$290. The OneTouch 4 at S$315, Seagate FreeAgent Desktop also at S$315. The Western Digital has various models of 1TB selling around S$300-S$350.

There aren't any major new products being shown, it is just another sales oriented show just in time for the  masses during the school holidays.

If you see anything interesting at the show, feel free to post it at the forums.
